ABOUT STRUMMS
Eveline Freida Strummer is the one and only daughter of Scottish poet, novelist, playwright and infamous literary malcontent Ethan James Strummer. The 31-year-old does freelance graphic design for magazines and websites, tattoo and paints out of a home studio. Her work is based on Molly Crabapple, Amanda Wachob and Xoïl unless otherwise disclaimed. She has also played bass and doublebass for bands The Whole Bloody Affair, Warfare, Dippin' Dolly and Queen Guillotine.

the story so far...
Evie understands that there are hopelessly romantic elements to the story of her relatively short life. This, she blames entirely on her parents and how she’d been introduced to the world through their eyes. To this heaving, breathing violent thing of a life which was often vicious but also so beautiful and full of potential. The world that was only ever truly worth it to those who could find something to fight for, something to be passionate and mental about. To burn and burn out for. She was born in Paris to Ethan James Strummer and Greta Louise Fleicher. Greta was a German military historian working on her Ph.D. at the Sorbonne while Ethan, a then struggling writer, taught English literature in broken French at an all girl school in the outskirts of Paris.
Greta passed away two years later in a quiet hospital room surrounded by her loved ones. Heartbroken, Ethan delivered his daughter to his parents in Aberdeen, and disappeared for the next four years -- which he spent in Colombia. His drug-addled, booze-soaked adventures in South America have been documented in a fictionalised Gonzo-esque novel called "Río Bogotá". It's one of his most popular pieces and one that Evie didn't read until she was much older at her dad's request.
It hadn’t been easy to talk his family and friends into trusting him with the six year old, but after much discussion, begging and legal aid, Ethan moved with Evie to Manchester and began teaching at the University. Whatever negative feelings Evie might have had for those years when he ran off and left evaporated as Ethan began dedicating his life to his daughter’s happiness, always aided by a close group of mates Evie recogises as her aunts and uncles.
A few moths shy of her turning sixteen, Ethan decided to rent a murder house in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and move there to finish the third in an unexpected collection of plays. A dozen more novels had been published to reasonable acclaim and he was finally able to dedicate himself to writing full time (which also made him a stay at home dad). It was during her time there that she met Luke, the only boy she has ever loved.
After graduating high school, Evie relocated to London to attend Saint Martins and study graphic design. While music never stopped being a strong part of her life, the gravitational pull to visual arts could not be denied. As her artistic voice found shape and reason, her relationship with Luke disintegrated after two tempestuous years neither of them is likely to ever forget. Their bond is a strong one and while there have been sequels that great initial quake, they've come to embrace there's nothing to be saved there.
Strumms worked for a small marketing firm in Brick Lane for a grand total of three months before deciding that the inability to sit at an office was just one more thing she inherited from her parents. She took a part-time job at Flamin' Eight, in Kentish Town, where she met and got involved with Madga Kielpinska. The Polish artist and poet began her training and after many oranges and a few shaky practice pieces on mates, Evie joined the staff at the renowned Kentish Town shop. Best choice she ever made.
The move to New York was one of those things. One of those things where things were too complicated and running away with one of her oldest mates seemed like a great plan. She graduated in 2013 from a Visual Narrative MFA at The School of Visual Arts and has since divided her time between her own art, work on commission, freelance illustration for books and magazines, a chair at a friend-owned studio in Brooklyn called Red Sky. She is currently working on two exhibits.
